One rule for a Dutt, another for a Sadhvi?

"Katju has written a wholly misconceived letter to the Governor and others, including Law Minister Ashwani Kumar and I&B Minister Manish Tewary, members of film fraternity and office bearers of Congress, NCP and Samajwadi parties have jumped on to his ex-Lordship's bandwagon".

"For their part, Kumar and Tewari, both eminent men of law, would serve the interest of the nation better if they applied their energies to upholding the law, rather than blindly seeking exoneration for a convict who by design or dim-wittedness facilitated the death of so many innocent victims on that fateful day in Mumbai", he said.

Investigations into 1993 bombings (as reported in newspapers) showed very clearly that Dutt was not merely in "possession" of illegal firearms, but knowingly served as a vital conduit for supply of arms, ammunition, and bombs from foreign based terrorists to the local ones. In the circumstances, it is difficult to understand why the charges against him were taken out of TADA, and why Supreme Court did not put him back under TADA and enhance the sentence.

An imaginary conversation:

Registrar of Marriages: “Your name is Sunil Dutt, and [turning to the woman] and you are Fatima Rashid. After marriage, you will be Fatima Dutt.”
Sunil Dutt: “No, Sir, she will continue to be Fatima Rashid, but I will change my name to Sunil Rashid.”
