northerners, please welcome tropical diseases! the limeys were finally defeated in india at least as much by tropical diseases and malaria and so forth -- so they didn't want to live here -- as by the fact that they could squeeze no more wealth out of india despite trying.
in the mode of 'guns, germs and steel' it would be ironic if europeans actually got wiped out by our germs.
